01 Mar Adaptive Climbing
Nashville has three different adaptive climbing programs under Catalyst Sports, one at The Crag, one at Climb Murfreesboro, and one at Climb Nashville West, for people with physical disabilities of all ages. We’ve had kids as young as two years old climb. Not only does adaptive climbing allow people to move their bodies, increase flexibility and mobility, and build strength and stamina in ways they wouldn’t during everyday physical activities, but also it increases mental focus, and confidence, to just name a few benefits. It’s a completely different type of sport than many of the others we participate in at ABLE Youth that, for some people, is just for a fun challenge where you set your own goals and for others is for competition. Catalyst also has a National Climbing Team, and we are so proud that one of our athletes is on the team. She has worked hard to develop her climbing abilities and recently went to her first comp (competition). We encourage all of our kids to give as many adaptive sports as possible a try, including adaptive climbing. With any sport, you never know what you’ll love excel at until you try!
